Kids’ Chorus Program

In partnership with the Music Advocacy Group and the Orcas Choral Society, the Funhouse is now hosting Kids’ Chorus! For ages 6-11, this group will meet on Fridays with instructor and well known local musician, Mary Wachter aka Miss Mary.

If you’re a kid in this age range who likes to sing and has favorite songs that you love singing along to, this group is for you! We will be singing popular favorites, some traditional songs, and we will even write our own songs. There is no expectation to perform, but if we do decide to do a show, you won’t be on the stage alone. Bring your friends and get ready to have fun and learn lots of new songs.

Classes will be every Friday from October 25th - December 20th, from 3:30-4:30pm. Attendees will be picked up from the public and Christian schools with the Afterschool groups.

Cost: $50 for entire program, 8 classes.
Note: No class on Friday, November 29th.

This session is currently FULL. Stay tuned for our next session!

Who is Miss Mary?

Miss Mary is Mary Wachter, local teacher and island musician. Mary has been teaching group music classes at The Funhouse since 2009. She started with Music Together®, a well renowned and internationally practiced early childhood music program, and continues today, still teaching classes for the little ones and their parents in her own iteration called Music with Miss Mary. Mary has been with the Funhouse for a while now, in many roles - as teacher, member of the board of directors, volunteer, and parent (her son, Elijah, was born and raised on Orcas and is now in college!).  Through Miss Mary’s Island Music, Mary teaches private lessons for students of all ages in violin, guitar, ukulele, and beginner piano.  She has been in several bands over the years, and is currently in two bands, The Swellz and Feral Mary & the Mother Electrix, both of which are releasing albums in 2024.  She is a multi-instrumentalist who plays violin, guitar, bass, drums, banjo, ukulele, and piano (and harmonica- ha ha!). Mary graduated from Boston College in 2002 after spending her high school years in Baltimore, MD where she is from, at Carver Center for the Arts and Technology. Mary loves all things music - You can find her at the Funhouse on Fridays at 4:30 for the much loved Funhouse Dance Party:-) If you have a question or would like to be involved in the new Funhouse Music Program, email Mary, the Music Facilitator at Mary@thefunhouse.org.
