Group Ukulele Class

The Funhouse is so excited to kick off its Music Program with some fun classes this Fall. Ukulele Class is for kids Ages 6-11, both for beginners and players who may already have a little experience. The ukulele is a great starter instrument with only four strings that are easy on the fingers and a small body, which makes them perfect for kids! We will start with basic songs and work our way up to singing some popular favorites that you might have heard at Funhouse Dance Party. Class meets on Thursdays starting 10/24th from 4:30-5:30. Ukuleles will be provided, or bring yours if you already have one! Taught by Miss Mary.

Cost: $75 for full session, 7 classes
Note: No class on Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Who is Miss Mary?

Miss Mary is Mary Wachter, local teacher and island musician. Mary has been teaching group music classes at The Funhouse since 2009. She started with Music Together®, a well renowned and internationally practiced early childhood music program, and continues today, still teaching classes for the little ones and their parents in her own iteration called Music with Miss Mary. Mary has been with the Funhouse for a while now, in many roles - as teacher, member of the board of directors, volunteer, and parent (her son, Elijah, was born and raised on Orcas and is now in college!).  Through Miss Mary’s Island Music, Mary teaches private lessons for students of all ages in violin, guitar, ukulele, and beginner piano.  She has been in several bands over the years, and is currently in two bands, The Swellz and Feral Mary & the Mother Electrix, both of which are releasing albums in 2024.  She is a multi-instrumentalist who plays violin, guitar, bass, drums, banjo, ukulele, and piano (and harmonica- ha ha!). Mary graduated from Boston College in 2002 after spending her high school years in Baltimore, MD where she is from, at Carver Center for the Arts and Technology. Mary loves all things music - You can find her at the Funhouse on Fridays at 4:30 for the much loved Funhouse Dance Party:-) If you have a question or would like to be involved in the new Funhouse Music Program, email Mary, the Music Facilitator at Mary@thefunhouse.org.
